Ciel's Choice

Hello, fellow Black Butler fans, how is it going?

These past few days, I've been reading a few more posts about the manga on Tumblr, stuff about Ciel, Sebastian, how the manga might end, what may happen to their contract and while there are a number of different speculations, there is this one ideea that I can kind of see happening, which is that Undertaker will try and separate Ciel and Sebastian, in the sense of breaking the contract between them.

Now, this seems like a logical, intuitive reasoning to me, seeing as how the Undertaker previously warned Ciel about guarding the things that are truly important, souls which once lost can not be recovered (possibly Ciel's soul too) and also, how he directly attacked Sebastian while on the Campania, but not Ciel himself.

Not to mention that he said he didn't want to see anymore dead Phantomhives.

Now, seeing that line from the Undertaker while also taking into consideration that HE WAS ACTUALLY THERE THAT NIGHT when Sebastian was summoned (he must have been there, at one point, rescuing the twin's body from the fire, as he wouldn't have been able to resurrect him as a Bizarre Doll otherwise,) it all really, really, rubs me the wrong way!!! Very much so!

If he didn't want to lose any other people whom were dear to him and whom he treasured, why didn't he rescue the twins before the older brother was killed?

Before the demon was summoned and he devoured the twin's soul?

- FYI, the character suspected to be Undertaker can be found :point_down: below, on this page; I marked him in the red circle, the seemingly only conscious character in assembly not losing his mind over Sebastian's... appearance, in more ways than one-

Because he had to be there in order to recover the older brother's body and turn him into a Bizzare Doll (which I still don't understand how Sebastian could have missed the Undertaker, I mean, sure, maybe he wasn't quite as committed to protecting Ciel as he is now and maybe he was more prone to lying, but still, this seems like quite the oversight) and seeing how quickly it all happened and how Ciel and Sebastian never left the place before Ciel gave the order for the place to be burnt down, I can only imagine that:

1) the Undertaker managed to sneak inside before the fire completely destroyed the older brother's body, while Ciel and Sebastian stood outsider, watching the building burn (which, granted, maybe he did do that, cuz we got precedent of him being in places that Ciel sets on fire and rescuing people from there, though it was only really once and only really Doll, from what we know so far)

-And as an aside note, for someone whom wants to keep the Phantomhives alive, the Undertaker sure made one hell of a choice to bring back Doll, one of the people with the biggest desire to see Ciel dead; that orphanage she was at, was all sorts of messed up & creepy! *shudders*-

OR

2) the Undertaker was inside the whole time, just waiting to swoop in, which, again, raises more questions than it answers:

A. WHY DID HE NOT RESCUE THE TWINS?

B. HOW DID SEBASTIAN NOT FIND HIM?

C. HOW DID SEBASTIAN NOT KILL HIM?

Now, I don't know for sure which of these options is more improbable, but I do know which bothers me more.

All of this being said, if Ciel does end up in a situation where he is given the option, by the Undertaker, to break his contract with Sebastian, keep his soul and live together with his brother (maybe even fulfil his revenge, hunting down the people whom hurt them and eliminating them together), I still don't see him readily agreeing to it:

1) I think he would feel inclined to reward Sebastian for his services and it's never appeared at least to me, as if Ciel tried to get out of the contract

2) I don't believe Ciel would consider either his brother or the Undertaker as trustworthy, since, as far as he's concerned:

a) the Undertaker is the enemy he has to capture, to hand over to the Queen and present her with the truth

b) his brother is a souless husk that he's had no with for the past 3 years, he doesn't know him anymore, beyond trying to anticipate his course of action or bigger plan, like trying to read another chess opponent's next move and even those suppositions are based on whom he knew his brother to be before his death.

...However, even taking all that into consideration, I have a hard time imagining Ciel ending his brother's life, the same way he ended Baron Kelvin's life, for example; and I'm not referring to the absolute all-consuming rage he exhibited then, but about shooting the person in front of him, ending their life directly through his actions: he couldn't kill Madame Red, after all, a fact Sebastian remarked upon as well.

...At the end of the day, could he really do that to the older brother whom he loved and ired so, the one whose name, face and spirit he has been wearing for the past 3 years and whom he wished to bring back to life, possibly even more than he wished for revenge, at the very start?

I don't know, but I have a hard time seeing him do that... though part of me feels like Sebastian may end up pushing him in that direction, because he does not let Ciel dwell on to the past, but he always pushes him forward towards his goals.

-Since, after all, Ciel getting his revenge aligns with Sebastian's goal of devouring his soul set ablaze in despair once he has achieved his target-

On an additional note... how Sebastian told Ciel that he sacrificed his brother's soul in order to summon him?

At that time, I interpreted that statement in a certain way, in which maybe I'll get into at a later date, in another post, since I still stand by that interpretation, while maybe others thought or still think that Sebastian was lying then, because he wasn't bound by the contract yet and he did later try to fool Ciel into thinking he could bring his brother back to life.

What if this statement is closer to coming true than any of us really realise? Especially Ciel? What if he really is going to be forced into making that kind of choice about his brother's "life?" And if any of those theories about his brother having something to do with their family's death turn out to be true... well, I can definitely see despair mounting in the future for Lord Phantomhive.

That being said, when weighing either side, either option, what they represent and bring to the table, the consequences of either one, which choice do you all think Lord Phantomhive is going to make, in the end?

That is what I want to ask you all today and what I hope a lot of you will be voting for, during the following 30 days, while this poll is up.
