THE PICTURE IN THE BACKGROUND BELONGS TO ME! IT HAS MY SIGNITURE AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT HAND CORNER!

I was home alone one day in my room. My dad was on a business trip and wouldn’t be back for another 2 days, my mom was in Ohio for a month visiting her childhood best friends and my sister was spending 2 weeks at Alana’s house. I would spend the few weeks at Evan’s or Jared’s but, I’m sick and I don’t wanna get them sick too.
I had just gotten off the phone with my dad and he said he was now back in New York, but he had a couple more meetings out of town before he could come home. I was sitting in my desk chair watching Urban Legend videos and I was eating some left over pizza from the night before.
I got up and went to the bathroom. When I was washing my hands however, I looked out towards my bedroom door and noticed just how the light looked darker. Which, naturally, I thought was pretty weird. But, I, being the dumbass that I am, just brushed it off as nothing until I walked into my room.
One of the 3 overhead lights had gone out. Which, might I add, was most literally impossible because the light had just been replaced about a week before hand. But, being the idiot I am, I just sat back down and continued watching videos. I was drawing a picture of Evan at the moment. About maybe a half an hour later, I started getting really thirsty. So, obviously, I went to go grab a glass of water.
As I walked down the stairs, I just hummed “Dr. Sawbones” by Creature Feature. I grabbed my glass of water and as I walked back up the stairs to my room, I noticed the light had become darker again. I walked into my room and saw the 2nd light had gone out. That one only having be replaced 5 days ago. I, once again, brushed it off as nothing. I finished my water and continued drawing. I rubbed my eyes since they were a little irritated from all the dust in the house. I stretched and yawned, opening my eyes to the room being only lit by the very dim outdoor light. I looked up. The 3rd bulb had gone out. That one was replaced only 5 hours ago…
My blood ran cold for a second. I walked over to the swtch and flipped it to turn them off then i flipped it back again and they all turned on just as bright as they were before. I was a little on edge now. I walked downstairs again only about a minute later to see if all the other power was working. I looked around and all the lights i had turned on were still on. The TV still on, since I wanted it to sound like there were people here.
I made myself some food and watched the movie “Death Note” before cleaning the dishes I used and turning off the Tv . I walked back upstairs and as I was about to enter the bathroom to take my evening dose of antidepressants and my anxiety pills, I saw from the corner of my eye, my sister’s bedroom light on. I thought it was really weird considering that she was in the back of the neighborhood at Alana’s right now. I hesitantly walked over to the door and opened it. I found nothing. The light was on, but there was no sign of anyone or anything. I just turned it off and headed back towards the bathroom. I took my pills and brushed my teeth. I changed into sweat shorts and a loose t-shirt and climbed in bed after shutting off my laptop.
I layed there, shifting and rolling over for about 2 hours until I heard a pounding at my door, which made me shoot up in bed and look over to the door. The pounding continued for a good 5 minutes before I turned on my bedside lamp. It stopped as soon as the light flicked on. I turned off the light and there was dead silence. No noise except for the occasional thunder outside. I layed back down and closed my eyes, falling asleep almost instantly.
When I woke up the next morning however, things were not any less creepy. I woke up to my school alarm going off and I turned it off and stretched. I ran my fingers through my hair and I could feel the greasey consistency of it, making me decide to talk a shower. I grabbed my clothes and hung them so I could dress in them after my shower. I just brushed out my hair and grabbed my deoderant, putting that and my brush on the counter for afterwards. I took off my shirt, starting to undress, but I saw made me stop and caused my eyes to widen. I saw 3-4 deep scratches on my stomach.
The weird thing is, is that, I haven’t had any scratches or scars on me since I self harmed a year ago. I was freaked the hell out, but went on with my shower anyway, making sure to clean the wounds thoroly. I got out and put on my clothes. I walked into my bedroom, grabbing my boots and throwing them on. I walked downstairs to find the backdoor wide open and muddy footprints going inside the house and stopping at the entrance to the kitchen, then circling around the island and going straight back out.
I quickly closed and locked the back door. I cleaned the floor fastly and then ate breakfast. I grabbed my bag after zipping up my jacket. I walked out of the house, shaking the entire way. Normally Evan is the King of Paranoia and Anxiety, but I was the fucking god of it today. I walked into school, not seeing my sister or my friends yet. So, I just sat at our normal spot under the tree. I was sitting there shaking still when I saw Alana and Zoe arrive with Jared and Evan on their heels.
Evan seemed to notice me shaking, so he knelt down next to me and gave me a hug.
“Connor, are you okay?” He asked, stroking my hair. I shook my head a little frantically.
“Why are you shaking Connor?” Jared asked, tilting his head a bit in confusion.
That’s when i explained EVERYTHING. They looked at me and tried to calm me down.
I was calmer by the end of the day and I went home to the empty house. I walked up to my room and dropped my bag on the floor. Before I could even so much as sit down, I heard the front door being knocked on. I headed down stairs, assuming it was a neighbor or something. But, I got a little concerned when I looked through the peephole and saw 2 police officers.
I opened the door, curious why they were here.
“Um, how can I help you?” I asked awkwardly.
“We heard from a neighbor of your’s that you’re house was broken into last night. Is this true?” One of them asked.
“Well, my backdoor was wide open this morning and I heard pounding on my bedroom door last night at about midnight.” I answered.
“Do you mind if we come in to get more details?” The other one asked very nicely. I nodded, opening the door a bit more and stepped aside for the 2 officers to come in.
“So, can you explain exactly what’ happened, or close to it?” The first one asked.
“Um, sure.” I answered awkwardly, “ I was laying in bed trying to go to sleep and at about 12am I heard pounding on my bedroom door. I hadn;t heard anything before that. It went on for 5 minutes straight until I turned on the lamp and it stopped. I didn’t ever hear a person enter or leave. But, this morning when I got out of the shower, I saw the backdoor wide open with muddy shoe prints that circled around the kitchen island and then back outside.”
They wrote everything down and thanked me for the information. They told me they’d let me know if they needed my help again.
“What is your name and how old are you?” One of them asked.
“I’m Connor Murphy, I’m 16, almost 17.” Im answered.
“I’m officer Daniel White and this is my partner, officer Henry Sharpe.” The first guy said.
“Alright thank you both.” I said shyly.
“You’re welcome, have a good evening.” Officer Sharpe smiled.
“Thank you, you too!” I smiled back, before closing and locking the door.

I got out of my car and grabbed the key to the house, unlocking the door and stepping in prior to closing it and locking it once more. I set down my things and heard slight crying from the kitchen. I walked towards the soft sound and found my son, Connor, curled up in the corner of the kitchen with tears in his eyes. He looked absolutely petrified.
I knelt down next to him and he just looked at me and started crying into shoulder. I hugged him trying to get him to calm down at least enough for me to find out what happened. That’s when I noticed a broken porcelain plate on the tile floor. It looked like it had some kind red liquid on it. I squinted the tiniest bit, realizing it was blood.
“Connor, why is there blood on the broken plate?” I asked, looking down at him again.
“B-Because it flew out of the cupboard and it hit me in neck.. It cut me with the jagged part it had on it... then it hit the floor and shattered…” He whimpered. I helped him stand up and I took him upstairs to the bathroom so I could bandage his wound. I washed it out and bandaged it for him. He was shaking, tear stains on his face.
“Is this the first crazy thing that happened before I arrived?” I asked, to which he shook his head. He explained everything that had happened within the last 24 hours and he was still shaky and stuttering as he explained. I bright him to his room where he changed into more comfortable clothes than jeans and a dress shirt. He walked downstairs and waited for me while I changed clothing.
I headed back down to find him still shaking. We cooked dinner together and ate in the living room, watching his favorite movies. I turned on one of his favorite songs, “Here There Be Witches” and we started singing together. He seemed at more calm and less tense than earlier, which made me smile in relief.
We fell asleep to a song the both of us loved, “A Fate Worse Than Death.”
We woke up at 2 in the morning to pounding on the front door. Connor looked at me with fear in his gaze. I gave him a reassuring look. I got up and headed over to the front door, taking a look out of the peephole, seeing nothing but a grown man in all black. Even his face was covered in black cloth. I looked back at Connor, who was staring at the back door, his eyes widened to their biggest size.
I looked behind me to try and see what he was so scared of, but I stopped dead in movement. I was frozen like a statue when I saw a male figure opening the backdoor from the outside. All I could think was, I need to grab Connor and hide. So, I did just that. I grabbed my son and we ran up the stairs. We swung a left into my bedroom and we both climbed into the closet, deep enough so that we weren’t visible to the human eye.
We stayed like that for a long time, hearing nothing. We only heard the faint thunder and rain outside. We met each other’s gaze, confusion filling our expressions. Then, we heard something that made us both jump. It was a tapping on the glass window pane. My blood ran cold as I tried to think of someway to get Connor and I out of here. I finally just grabbed him by the arm, and decided to take the risk trying to get out the doors or the downstairs windows. We ran back downstairs and we opened the front door very hesitantly. There was no one there anymore , so we booked it to his friend Jared’s house down the street a little ways. Jared’s mother was on the phone with the police and his father and I were talking. Jared was talking to Connor, comforting him since he was really shaken up.

My dad and I stayed at Jared’s place for the night. My dad on the couch and me on Jared’s bedroom floor. I went to school with Jared that morning and we walked in pretty late. Evan came running over to me and hugged me, Jared having texted him last night to let him know what happened. I hugged back and gave Evan a sweet little forehead kiss, showing him that everything’s okay.
Nothing like that has happened since. In a way, I feel like my dad I grew closer because of this incident. My family moved closer to the middle of the neighborhood where Evan lives.
Nothing creepy has happened since that night and My dad and I still have a lot of questions as to what the hell happened. But, in a way, I don’t think we ever want to find out…
HAPPY EARLY HALLOWEEN
