PSA: How to Credit Art

Hey DRA!

Due to our other art crediting PSAs being outdated, our team would like to provide an updated one so that our newer (and usual ones) have a place to look for help when having troubles crediting art.

❝Why is crediting Important?❞

As we hope all of you know, not crediting any art (or original works) that aren't yours is against the guidelines. There is a reason why this is such an important rule.

Artists work extremely hard on their works, and having a post them without credit is very frustrating. Secondly, if another wants to the artist but can't find them, the artist could lose potential opportunities.

❝What needs credit?❞

Generally, any copyright material needs to be credited. While this mainly includes art, music, and even literature, in this PSA we're mainly going to focus on the art side of things.

Any type of art used in posts and wikis need credit. Things such as backgrounds and filler images still need to be credited if it's not your own art. (This does not include Gifs, since they are built into Giphy)

If you used a base for your own art, the original artist for the base needs credit.

❝How do I credit art?❞

If you can't where you found the art originally, or found it on a site such as Pinterest (not a reliable source), using a reverse search engine has proven to be quite useful.

The most helpful site to date is reverse.photos.

step 1 ;

Click the link here-> :coffee: and open it in an external browser by clicking the three dots in the bottom right corner of your screen.

step 2 ;

Select the button on the screen saying "", and choose the image you would like to find the source for. Once it finishes ing, then click "show matches"

step 3 ;

A google page will load up with several results showing the image you ed. Go through them to find the original artist.

avoid any unreliable sites.

❝Which sites are reliable?❞

Upon following the previous steps, you might find that there are several different websites that show up. Knowing which ones can be trusted are key to finding the original artist.

Trusted Sites ;

➯DeviantArt

➯Twitter

➯Tumblr

➯Instagram

(Note that Instagram doesn't always show up in reverse images properly, so if the name is in the art, look for it on Instagram too)

Untrusted Sites ;

➯Pinterest

➯Wattpad

➯Imgrumweb

➯Webstagram

(Also please note that although the last two are listed as untrusted, very rarely they might direct you to the original artist. Again, very rarely, so make sure to double check!)

❝I can't find the artist!❞

If you can't find the artist you will need to either remove the art you used, or choose another piece that you know the artist of. thankfully, our Amino has the solution!

The Art Database which you can find here-> :coffee: , has a vast collection of great Deltarune artwork and provides the original artist/source for you to use.
