Hey there all you lovelies! Virum here to help explain how to better understand what Literacy is, what an Advanced OC is, how to Sharpen Your Roleplaying Skills and how to identify a literate roleplayer! Parts one and two are linked down below!

Part One: Beginning to Roleplay

(Part Two is to be Written)

Now without further ado~

What the HECK are you talking about..Literacy?? And who all is literate??

Well you lovely little dove, Literacy is, by broad definition, is the ability to read and write understandably. If you want a more detailed and defined version of literacy, click here.

What Literacy means in the world of roleplay is how detailed you become and how MUCH you write. Typically, most people are semi-literate, writing a couple small paragraphs as a response that is usually 4+ lines per paragraph, while a literate roleplayer will write 5+ paragraphs as a reply. This is one way to help identify-

Okay but you still-

Hang on little dove~ I'm fixing to explain how to Identify a literate partner ^-^

Literate roleplayers are typically self identified OR you can usually see if someone is literate by how they have their OCs set up and how they describe them. If you see that they place a lot of detail into how their OC looks, what their personality is like and their Backstory, you can tell that they are literate. Most of the time, however, they will tell you in OOC (out of character) talk if they are literate. Typically, the more described the OC is, the more advanced OC i-

Wait...Advanced OC?! WHAT!?

Hold on, little dove, don't fret! This is where we shall explain what an Advanced OC is!

Typically, an OC is just described shortly using a basic template. However, an Advanced OC is one that has a very detailed template. Take my OC Colt has a more simplified template. Using a more detailed and defined template creates a more advanced OC.

I think that about covers-

WAIT!! HOW CAN I BECOME MORE LITERATE!??!?!!?

Ooh! That's right! Okay my dove, calm yourself! I'll explain that now ^-^

Now that you have a better understanding of what an Advanced OC is, and what Literacy is, let's talk about how to Sharpen Your Roleplaying Skills.

For starters, what you can do is start small, try writing in more details of your surroundings, what it's like around the characters, set the mood. Talk about how your OC feels and what they look like! The more details you add into the description of things will add to the story. Use adjectives to describe the area better and add in what your oc is thinking! Go wild with describing things! That's what Literate roleplayers love!

We crave details! The more, the better. I'll provide an example of how you can write to be more literate below ^-^

《Damien's mind snaps back to the past. His grandmother. She called for him. For hours she had called, it seemed. But it was only a minute that she called. It only took three seconds for her to fall...and ninety seven for her to die. In that time, he went to the mail box. He told her he'd be back!

He goes into the room and sees her on the floor. Her eyes gazing up at the ceiling. It appearing over her. 'You did this...but it's okay. I'm here now,' Its voice whispers. Calmly, he called the authorities while on the inside, he was breaking down. When the officers arrived, as well as a social worker, he was sent back home.

Not paying attention to the road, the car swerves. It hits a bump and flies up into the air. Tires screech and the car flips, slamming Damein through the window. It lands and Damien lies in the dirt, his head bleeding and his arm broken. No...not broken...shattered. Like his mind. Slowly, It comes into his sight. 'It's okay Damien...I'm here now,' It coos. His eyes glaze as his heart stutters rapidly in his chest. 'Just close your eyes Damein and fall asleep.'

Ms. Turner runs out and goes into the old barn behind the cabin. She sees her father's old, rusted and rugged truck and she hops in. She starts the old stick shift up and drives out. "DR. VALENTINA IF YOU WANT TO GET TO DAMEIN BEFORE THE COPS GET IN!" She throws open the old door. "C'MON!" Barely waiting for Tay to enter the old, rugged truck, Evanaglien speeds down the road with a deep sense of urgency.

She es a flipped over car. It's hers. "SHIT!" She slams on the breaks and the truck squeals to a halt. She throws the gear into reverse and backs down the road. She parks behind the wrecked remains of her car. "Holy shit!" She gets out and runs around. She sees blood in the grass. "TAY!" 'Fuck formalities,' she thinks as she follows the trial of blood with her eyes.

Damein stumbles after It. He follow the quiet voice It uses. He sees the world through foggy eyes. The grass is covered in black ash and soot. The sky is blood red and drops of blood fall as it begins to rain. Damein holds his arm. He can't feel it nor move it. He had gotten away from the wreck surprisingly fast thanks to It leading him. It was so nice and warm. He trips over a bone in the grass. In his mind it's a bone...in reality he had tripped over a large branch. He's wandered into a field off the road and he's exposed to the elements as the rain begins to fall. He shivers and lies down in the field.

His head throbs and he can't feel his arm. A field of ash lays under his tired body and he feels the cold blood-drops cool his skin. He mumbles into the ash and his body curls. He cradles his arm to his chest and closes his eyes. It encourages him. 'Sleep Damein...it'll all feel better after you're sleeping...'》

Now, as you can see there are descriptive adjectives, a bit of a flashback to my OC Damien and also, how he also sees the world. You can become even more descriptive! Like I stated before, literate roleplayers crave details! Treat the roleplay like you're writing a novel. And also...HAVE FUN!

Now I think that about covers this tutorial! I hope all you lovley little doves have a better understanding of what an Advanced OC is, how to spot a Literate Roleplayer, what Literacy is and how to Sharpen Your Roleplaying Skills! Mostly, all you have to do is just keep an eye out for details. As to Sharpening Your Skills, that all comes with roleplaying with a literate partner!

I hope this helps all you lovely doves.

Until next time ~

Where I struggle is when I am role-playing with a non-literate person :joy: when someone gives me detail I can give it back without a problem. However when I don't have much detail to work with I struggle with putting my own detail in
