Was Dragon ever like Luffy & Garp? (Read Description)

Hey everyone, L here. In episode 1131 of One Piece, when Kuma asked Dragon about how he knows so much about fighting & using weapons, he told him that he use to be a navy soldier in his earlier days. Which could give us a decent clue on what his relationship with his father Garp & Sakazuki were really like before learning that he could find any real Justice within the ranks.

Now although we don't know how, where & when Oda will give us Dragon's full flashback, but until he does, i began to wonder if there was indeed a time where Dragon wasn't like Luffy & Garp during those days.

If so, then perhaps there were also times where Dragon did try to save his comrades instead of focusing on the main goal. And if doing that resulted in a tragic moment, then it could've also made him realize that the mindsets that his father & son have are not what is needed in an effort to oppose the root of the World Government's corrupt ways.

Plus, as someone who views Dragon as the Optimus Prime of One Piece, this could probably parallel what Orion Pax from Transformers One was like before becoming the iconic Autobot Leader we know today since he also wanted what was best for others but his ideas had consequences for himself & others.
