General Mood:

Karth is normally in a rather neutral mood. His attitude isn’t prominent, with him preferring to speak only when necessary, not generally without purpose. His time as a soldier and a spy has made him blank, much more observant and detail oriented than he is conversational, resulting in a vastly different ruler than many would expect out of the Imperial Remnant. When in a light mood, he refuses to show it, otherwise his bad moods are often delegated to his private quarters and training rooms.

Humor:

Dark. If there is something a person wasn’t supposed to say due to the severity of the situation, Karth is going to say it. It’s often seen as inappropriate by outsiders, but those within the Crimson Command have learned to laugh with him.

Quirks:

Karth enjoys hot chocolate, quite a bit. It was one of the few treats his family could afford during certain times and he cherished it. Occasionally, Karth will sip a glass aboard the bridge of his destroyer and reminisce, thinking about his parents and his old home.

While many of his actions are perceived as acts of evil, Karth is one of the few Imperials seeking true order. He doesn’t believe that it must be done with armies and war, but understands that those are instruments of peace, something many before him had used for subjugation.

General Personality:

As a boy, he was bright and cheerful. Once he entered the Imperial academy, that changed as the cruelties of instructors beat the smile off of him. Becoming a soldier did little to help, only starting to intensify the silence he would use to make others uncomfortable or

Karth doesn’t have a relationship with his family as a result of being kidnapped as an infant. This wasn’t a situation he could change later on in life due to his positions as a soldier, then a spy, and subsequently a royal guard.

Colonel Chatu

A member of the same platoon as Karth, Chatu was one of the original people that Karth ever reached out to when starting his spy network. The two earned each other’s respect as survivors of the Loss at Psycho, with Chatu losing a leg, forever hindering him. Despite his disabilities, he remains defiant and charges head first into combat with his personal battalion even though his rank doesn’t require him to. While most in his position don the uniform of an officer, Colonel Chatu is the only to continue wearing his armor into battle, leading his men bravely.

The Karth family was not one blessed with riches or with fame. Far from the prying eyes of the galaxy, among the treachery of Wild Space, Damien found himself among the Imperial Remnant occupied world of Kallon. This presented a number of interesting variables for an infant Damien, who would be tested for his Midi-chlorian count at the age of two. Though his tests would ultimately go unnoticed by Imperial command, the Inquisitorious from the Outer Rim Remnant were interested. This sparked a type of debate among the Moffs of the Imperial Council, a loose coalition of the surviving Imperial Remnants and their leaders, whether brainwashed by the past Empire’s glory or mere warlords using the aesthetic to their advantage. The Outer Rim Remnant sought the child, brokering a trade for a cache of weapons in exchange for the then two and a half year old. This deal raised many eyebrows among the councilors, but like so many other things with the Imperial Remnants, leadership didn’t seek further explanation from the situation. The deal had been completed.

Damien was taken to a secret facility among the ruins of Alderaan, a lost installation that hadn’t been taken over by the New Republic during the Core’s Reorganization. There, the child was raised as a young Inquisitor. The dark siders that had taken him from his family hadn’t intended on treating him as one of their own, no initially they subjected a then three year old Damien Karth to a basic exercise regiment with three meals a day. He saw no other children, no other life besides droids and the black clad Inquisitors that had stolen him. The young child didn’t know his blight, only knowing that he wanted a simpler life than the one he’d been granted. By the age of five, the Inquisitor’s were expanding his training, including basic math, galactic history, and some martial arts. His teachers, the droids who were also raising him, began turning into training units as the physical regiments became more rigorous and demanding on his body. He was only five years old, and each session he would return with bruises and lacerations across his face from being smacked with sticks or face planting from a rough push. The environment became less forgiving, and Damien couldn’t comprehend why. His confusion bred anger that only brewed in his young mind, creating a strange obsession with the Inquisitors that would be their ultimate undoing. In his position, all Damien could do was think, so that’s what he would do. He was a child without any power or leverage in his position, so what could he be expected to do? He sat in his anger until it became hate and that hatred turned into fury, growing ever more prominent in the child’s life as he started going through his training sessions using it as a fuel for his now aching muscles. His body was sore from the demands of his dark masters, and he had yet to learn what they truly wanted. Damien’s fury finally exploded out from his body in a vicious attack of Force energy that destroyed his caretaker droids. Due to the situation that he’d been in, Damien was left alone in the facility for a week, starving and scared. All Inquisitors were on other duties, tending to their responsibilities throughout the Imperial Remnant.

This interesting situation brought into question what the Inquisitors intended to do with Damien. Considering the Council were now aware that he’d been taken to a facility away from the Inquisitor’s primary training world, Dathomir, Grand Moff Kota Da demanded her citizen to be returned to the Crimson Command. The weapons vital to the deal’s completion prior were forgotten, Damien returned to Kallon but not to his family. The Crimson Command wanted to understand what had sparked the ORR’s interest in the boy. Kota Da discovered nothing new and nothing of intrigue, adding a degree of annoyance to her investigation. To walk out empty handed would have been a loss, something Kota wouldn’t allow, so she sent Damien to Kallon’s Trooper academy, trained by some of the most incompetent officers that the Imperial Remnant might have had at its disposal. Without much additional thought, Damien began a rather average cadet career. He kept his head down throughout his preteens, preferring to do well enough to advance, but not be in the spotlight or the Colonel’s notice. While most cadets gave into the aggressive environment and went out of their ways to attack one another, Damien found a way to survive without becoming a target of the politics of the academy, finding himself relatively safe up until his first campaign into the Unknown Regions at the age of eighteen, months after he’d graduated the academy.

Standard to how the Crimson Command operated, Damien was sent on a tour into the terror-filled corridors of the Unknown Regions, searching for something of interest to Kota Da, who was safely sitting aboard her flagship in some dark corner of the galaxy, away from her enemy’s notice. Damien was now part of Tuk’ata Company, dispatched as frontline foot soldiers during assaults. Some of the soldiers in the company were much more experienced than Damien and warned him of the dangers of what was to come, something that he couldn’t possibly hope to comprehend. They were searching for a hyperspace lane to a supposedly lost Imperial holdout in the Unknown Regions, one that their Chiss allies had spoken of in veiled detail. This hunt for this planet brought the 15th Regiment, of which Tuk’ata Company was part of, to the Nihil Retreat, a nightmarish maze of worlds controlled by horrid dark side cults that haunted these poor soldier’s night terrors.

Probes sent into the Paraan Nebula returned inconclusive information, something that alerted Crimson Command of potential issues early into the expedition. These warnings were ignored, and Damien was sent into the thick of the situation without any understanding of what he was getting himself into. Uncharted and completely unexplored, the Paraan Nebula was one of the worst experiences in his Stormtrooper career. The first planet they landed on was supposedly named Psycho, a complete mess of ash and what were thought to be abandoned cities. These cities were in fact tombs to a dead army raised from the ash heaps. The troopers on world fought against hordes of enemies that refused death, no matter how many times their bodies were blown to pieces. The pieces would just put themselves back together without explanation. These foes would be left on the world, as the Crimson Legion fled, deeming the entire campaign a loss after the decimation of four platoons of Stormtroopers. This wouldn’t have been a major loss to the former Empire, but to a Remnant in search of resources to bolster their thinning supply lines, a planet of undead monsters wasn’t necessarily the most useful asset. However, Kota Da gave the order herself, to continue deeper and ignore the planet. They had more important things to focus on.

The next destination was the Gunninga Gap, a spatial oddity that confused any and all who viewed the mess of floating trees and debris. A forest suspended in a cloud of gases somehow capable of sustaining life, it confused the troopers the moment they entered the cloud. Their resources were focused on exploration at this point, wanting to understand exactly what they might’ve gotten themselves into, meaning that when the Knell attacked, they were caught off guard in every way. These creatures conjured up shadowy demons that tore through Damien’s friends, turning two platoons of soldiers into mush. It left a mental scar on Damien’s mind, something that traumatized him beyond what he thought possible. It only became worse when he was forced back to the frontlines on a pacification mission with a strengthened force bolstered by ORR Inquisitors and acolytes from Byss. The resulting battle was a resounding win, one that opened many pathways throughout the Paraan Nebula that the Imperial Remnant didn’t know possible. Damien attended a number of the meetings between the Imperial Council and the Knell of Muspilli, including their nightmarish companions in the Sorcerers of Rhand. Despite their many strange customs and traditions, and the war that had been fought, this new cult was welcomed into the Imperial Remnant with open arms. Seeds of doubt planted by poor command were compounded by these results, leaving Karth with a sense of unease about the entire thing.

After the win, Imperial command ordered Damien back home, damaged and clueless. He returned to Kallon and considered leaving the Stormtrooper Corps, but realized the impossibility of the task. He couldn’t be a civilian if he tried, and that revelation broke him beyond anything. But, it presented opportunities in other ways, some unforeseen routes now more visible than they had been, prior. A return to his platoon meant an instant promotion for his service, but given the severity of the conflict he’d faced, he could’ve gone to be an officer aboard a destroyer. That was too plush for him, though, something more rugged was due. A discussion and application was all it took for Damien to become a Remnant Commando. He was brought to Umbara for additional environmental and spy training, learning among the Shadow People. He was beaten, bruised, but never broken. He rose from every lesson changed, more capable than before and now, granted the edge of a spy. Mission one was to a New Republic refueling depot on Bespin. Landing on Cloud City was easy enough, transferring to the tibana gas rig was the problem. A calculated murder and disposal of the body over the edge of the city simplified the situation, granting Karth access to rig 034, one of the largest mining facilities that the New Republic had for such an operation. Once inside, he went out of his way to interact with a number of droids, permanently powering down three of them after he’d stolen copies of their memories and information stored in their drives. Among the information he’d taken was a complete manifesto of clients and locations where the tibana would be sent to. From this mission, Karth took the information and began sabotaging facilities, bombing some, burning others. Each mission was critical in its own way to furthering the Imperial movement and slowing down the growing Republic power in the Core. This career brought into consideration the possibility of yet another promotion, with Grand Moff Kota Da eyeing him as candidate for an empty spot in her Royal Guard. With his time in the Remnant, it made him a suitable choice.

By the age of twenty-five, Karth was now leading most Imperial covert operations without much supervision. He reported once or twice a week, and his superiors deemed his results more than acceptable as time progressed. Already being eyed for a position by Kota Da, Karth was finally brought to the planet Byss, on an unknown assignment by his Moff. Once he’d landed on the capital of the Inner Core Remnant, he was kidnapped and brought to a holding cell in the Ruined Citadel. His captors offered only a proposition, them or die. With his options less than perfect, Karth bit the bullet and accepted, his captors only then revealing themselves to be Imperial Royal Guards, one of them the current Imperial Champion. His black armor and robes inspired Karth even more, something he didn’t know was possible. With their offer accepted and the past now behind him, Karth was brought to one of many stellar bodies left after the misfiring of the Galaxy Gun over a hundred years before. The large asteroid was a training facility utilized by the remnant as the primary training grounds for the Imperial Royal Guards, with their training being overseen by the Champion, Sato Voth. Karth was already proficient with blasters and long range weaponry from his time as a spy, now being introduced to a wide range of melee weapons, notably vibro-blades and the like. After nearly a decade out of academy, Karth was also expected to pick his textbooks back up and learn a number of new subjects, including a wider range of galactic history and strategy, studying some of the most brutal battles fought on both the ground and in vacuum. For two years, Karth fought tooth and nail to maintain his position among the royal guard cadets, each of them killing one another whenever possible, whether from a “training accident” or blatant sabotage. Karth himself had dealt out a number of brutalities, crushing one of his peer’s skulls during an exercise and cutting another in half during another outing. The most notable incident on Karth’s record happened during a late training exercise where he was fighting a team of five cadets, solo. The situation intensified as he was battered by the opposing force, taken to the ground where they continued beating him to a pulp until a wave of anger overcame Karth and he lashed out with a powerful wave of Force energy, snapping the necks of each of the cadets to little consequence. Rage and cunning dominated the environment, encouraged by their commanders and the Champion who watched over them. Karth neared the end of his training and could sense the walls closing in on him as other cadets found themselves in similar positions. Despite there being a need for more guardsmen, there wasn’t any room for weakness. Sato Voth began training Karth’s class, less than six men by this time, and personally began killing the soldiers. Karth was the last of the class, and after barely surviving a duel with the Champion, he was finally given the robes of a Royal Guard.

Armed with a force pike and a number of other utilities, Karth began guarding Imperial officials across Remnant Territories, either aboard their private shuttles or piloting his own TIE Predator. This new lifestyle took time to adjust to, but once he had become comfortable, Karth began watching his superiors just as they wished. He saw their shortcomings, noting each of their failed operations and the decisions that led to so many deaths, the same type of decisions that had led to the failed first with the Knell. Bitterness grew silently behind the faceplate of the guard, only intensifying as Karth watched Moffs and irals play with the lives of Stormtroopers like they weren’t human. Carelessness and stupidity were all he saw among the brass of this failed empire, and he finally understood how the former Empire had fallen so ungracefully. Watching commands that led to the losses of so many broke Karth, making him think of the fellow troopers he’d lost before due to similar orders. His mind began cranking out ideas, composing hypotheses and experimenting carefully, using his superior clearance to gain information on former allies and friends from his service, getting back into with many that had survived. He enacted a plot, enlisting the help of certain trusted Stormtroopers and other guards he’d befriended in his time with the red clad warriors, creating a web within the Imperial Remnant meant to trap information and bring it forth to Karth. Locations, fleets, supply routes, even stolen credits from the Imperial Fund were brought to his attention, information he used to rally more to his cause. It took three years, but finally he had a network capable of ensnaring the Imperial Council. Karth’s plan was nearly perfect, but the Champion Sato Voth uncovered it and attempted to stop the coup before it could even begin. He and Karth fought aboard the bridge of the Imperial Star Destroyer Commodore, their vibroblades clashing while the crew of the vessel scurried around them, keeping the vessel afloat. Losing two fingers in the process, Karth also sustained a broken rib, leg, and dislocated shoulder before he managed to complete the Champion, choosing to behead him before his former subjects without a drop of remorse to be seen. Stealing the title of Champion and donning the robes and armor of a Sovereign Protector, Karth headed home to Kallon, hell bent on cleansing the Imperial Council. Kota Da was the first to be killed, followed by her subordinates who didn’t pledge their loyalty to Karth. A mass cleansing of the Imperial Remnant occurred, with thousands of people being taken from their positions of power and replaced with those that agreed with Karth. The traitorous guard installed heads of power in the Inner Core Remnant and the ORR, finding it fairly easy to do. Who was going to oppose the war torn Champion? After taking control of the Crimson Command, Karth returned home to Kallon, now heralded as the Champion of the Empire, still wearing the stolen robes of Sato Voth. He, along with the advisors he placed in positions of power throughout the Imperial Remnant, began reshaping things into his vision, becoming bolder with their tactics and more daring in their advances for territory.

Now, at the age of 34, Karth has more control over the Imperials than ever, with his fleets spreading his word over Imperial dominion and his spies feeding him information from every corner of the galaxy. There is little he is unaware of, and less he won’t be privy to in time, with his eyes wide and his ears open, ever vigilant.
