Cat Noir's POV
I felt my brain being surrounded by multiplying rays of color of all varieties. The ringing sound of successfully entering the menu opened my ears.
Clicking on my language; French, I began typing in my name. I reread it to make sure it was correct. Cat Noir. I clicked Submit and was transported to an empty, tenebrious room.
The different avatars came up. Sliding through each one, I selected the one that looked somewhat like me. A tall-looking man with long, dirty blond hair and round eyes wearing a evergreen, simple attire.
Upon picking the unrealistic yet interesting-looking avatar, within seconds; the ground altered before me; transforming into the grand beginning point that I recalled from the beta test.
My vision was blurry at first; trying to focus on one particular point. After a few moments, my eyesight became more accustomed to my new location.
I gripped onto my new body and curled my fingers into fists of determination. This time, I will do better than when I was in the beta test. I'm gonna beat the tower and climb to the very top.
"Yeah, I'm back." I said.
After making my stand, I bolted through the central marketplace where all the players decide if they want to trade in their previous weapons or buy new ones. I already had a decent sword so I decided on practicing my swordplay to prep myself on climbing the MO(Miraculous Online)tower.
While racing to the sparring areas, I heard a distinct figure who seemed to be calling out to me.
"Yo! Dude! Hold on a second!" My feet skidded to a stop and I was face to face with the stranger. It was another guy who had an avatar with cocoa skin and short, jet black hair with a faded, more dark green outfit.
"Hi," I said, feeling friendly. "What's up?" I'll it, I was feeling a tiny bit anxious and shy talking to another person outside of my father, Nathalie, and the Gorilla.
Being trapped in a mansion my whole life was not my idea of living. Because of that, I didn't have many friends other than the ones I made online through gaming and social medias. However, my father always found out about them, and banded me from going on those kinds of things again.
The poor guy looked as though he was outta breath. Was I really running that fast?
"You ran through the market as if you knew your way around here. Have you played virtual reality before?" The stranger asked.
"Um...Something like that." I said sheepishly; not wanting to let him know that I was a beta tester. I didn't want to spread the news and get any unwanted attention.
"That's totally rad dude. Listen, I was searching for someone to spar with and everyone seemed pretty new at this so I didn't think they'd be any hard to take on. And you look like an average player," He said; gesturing to me. "So whaddaya say? Care to take me on?" The teenager reached his hand out for me to grab.
I smirked at his cockiness. "Why not?" I said while shaking his hand gruffly. "I accept your challenge."
The man grinned as if he was sure to win against me. "What's your name anyway? I want to know the name of the adversary of whom I'm gonna beat."
"Cat Noir," I said confidently. "And yours?"
"Jade Turtle." He replied.
"Well Jade Turtle, may the best swordsman win." I said, but little did my sorry opponent know that I had one of own ace in the hole.
We decided on duking it out in a nearby, flat meadow. The reeds of grass there were short so they wouldn't get in the way of our sharp weapons.
I unsheathed my bluntly edged blade. It was simple with a steel-like feel and a comfortable handle. To test it out, I sliced it through the air a few times and was satisfied with the results. It was nimble and light; my sword will be hard to see and will be difficult to deflect.
"Dude! Ya ready?!" JT called. He was standing a few yards away; readying himself.
"Yeah!" I yelled back. "How should we determine the winner?!" The thought was on my mind on that very second since we hadn't established it.
"I don't know?! First bar that drops loses?!" He shouted back.
"Alright!" I formed my stance and decided on what position to take him on. I wouldn't underestimate him. He seemed so confident that he would win so he must have some tricks up his sleeve. It's always in the shows and movies whenever someone underestimates their opponent, they lose. I won't make that mistake again, not like last time.
"3...2...1! Go!" We cried out in unison.
Jade Turtle took the first strike. It was slow and traceable so I easily dodged. With that, I countered, but he blocked with his own blade.
He's not half bad.
I whirled to pulse my sword again, however; Jade had pulled a stone shield out of nowhere pushing me back. Sending me a quick smirk at his called victory.
"There's no chance for you to win now! Your weapon has no chance of getting my shield!" Jade guffawed.
I grinned. He underestimated me. Time for me to teach him a lesson. When he pulled that shield, I had him all figured out. He's more of a defense than offense because he's not a risk taker. Jade doesn't like to take leaps of faith without ensuring there are safety precautions.
With that, I used my full speed. Swiftly moving as fast as light and slicing my blade easily through the stone shield and leaving a small cut on Jade's shoulder. I watched his health bar lower slightly.
For me, it seemed like centuries before Jade turned in head to face me. Let's just say his face was priceless. I had to almost choke myself from not laughing.
"Victory is mine." I said smoothly; hoping I sounded cool.
Suddenly, Jade clasped in shoulder and started wailing and rolling all over the weeds as if he was in pain. He started shouting and began sobbing.
I face-palmed myself. "Um...Jade...You do realize that you can't feel pain in the virtual reality world, right?"
"Oh yeah!" Jade exclaimed. "Just natural instinct I guess."
"You really are a hopeless idiot, you know." I laughed.
"Hey!" We both started guffawing and chortling till we ran out of breath.
Jade Turtle plopped himself onto the soften meadow green grass. Staring vacantly at the scarlet sunset and the whistling of the cool breeze.
"It's incredible that this is actually a video game we're in," Jade said wistfully. "Who was the genius that came up with this?"
"I think it was a man named Master Fu." I replied.
"Strange name." He said. I agreed whole-heartedly.
After a few more moments of gazing at the pretty surroundings, Jade stood up. "Well, I should get going now. I gotta eat dinner. Such a shame, game food won't fill up our real stomachs," He chuckled. "Say, when I get back wanna hang out with me and my buds back at the market?"
"Sure, got nothing else to do with my time." I said; looking forward to next time.
"Sweet," Turtle Boy swiped his right hand and scanned the options. "Uh...Cat Noir?"
I faced him. It was the first time that he called me by that name. "Yes?"
"Okay, this may sound like an idiotic question, but where's the button?"
