Yo my starstrucked miraculers! We're back after what? A few billion years...or something... :joy: Anyways! It's chapter eleven to my SAO AU! This chapter will be much more angsty so be prepared! Btw, on a completely different note, have you guys seen the new episodes of season 2 yet?! If you haven't, come back to this fanfic later and watch it now! Let's just say, the first few episodes are going to be quite the...evolution. :smiling_imp:

***

Cat Noir's POV

I scanned back and forth; excusing and squeezing myself in between from the crowding erby.

Gently clutching Ladybug's amazingly smooth, soft hand(Seriously, what moisturizer does this girl use?!)I cleared ourselves a age through the surrounding players.

Her normally sparkly turquoise orbs weren't brightening as usual. The bluenette was unusually depleted of her flaring confidence.

She refused to make eye ; breaking away her stares whenever our eyes met. The little lady looked as though she couldn't even bring herself to call me out on my relentless flirting or PUN-by jokes.

It was freaking me out like crazy. I couldn't read her mind and it scared me. It was normally obvious to tell what she was feeling.

Bugaboo was always so expressive and she never beat around the bush. She was straight forward sort of gal and would always meet anyone or anything head-on; baby blue eyes piercing right through you like a her blade, Tikki. Perfect and precise.

She was well-known for her lightening speed movements; all virtually and nearly impossible to track unless you trained by her enough to keep at least your eyes on her.

Her sword would deliver short yet deadly cohesive blows to her opponent; knocking them down within a few hits. Ladybug was the epitome of terrifying and was more than worthy of anyone's respect.

But that wasn't the scariest thing about her. No, what really made the dainty-looking swords woman so famous was her fast-thinking cleverness.

Her tactician skills were off the charts; reigning supreme over the highest leveling leaders of the most promising guilds.

If the odds were ever stacked against her, I know my lady would find a way to turn the tables. Her quick thinking saved countless lives during the front lines and boss battles.

Her strategies were top-notch, top of the class, or were even at the top of the food chain of ideas.

I know her well enough to see that she was anxious about something. But what? She's probably smarter than any player in the MMO and stronger than most.

The bluenette was fearless. Courageous. Selfless. A savior. A hero. Our surviving hope. A friend. What's bothering her?

"If you think I'm still mad about you destroying the restaurant and making me pay for the damages, I'm not." I tried for a reassuring smile; patting and slipping my fingers in her silky blue locks.

Ladybug shook her head; leaning against my arm. I so wanted to squeal like a little kid. She's. Touching. My. Shoulder. "It's...not that."

"What is it then?" I inquired quizzically.

Her lip quivered; her emotions were getting the better of her as her irises liquified. "I...I...uh..."

I tenderly grasped her shoulder to help smolder the trembling. "Hey, it's okay. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."

Her orbs widened slightly. "But, I...want too," Her body hindered its own shaking while she took a deep breath. "I've been feeling a bit..." She hesitated to say. "...guilty for punching that waitress into next week even if she did deserve it."

I thought this was the best time for one of my signature jokes.

“Astounding! I can't believe it! THE 'Lucky Charm' of the front lines actually knows what guilt is! I thought that her prideful attitude prevented that escapee, but it seems I was wrong!" I made random hand gestures for emphasis.

The bluenette scoffed at herself and I'm also guessing, at me. "What I can't believe is that I'm mulling over something like this!" She sighed; absolutely frustrated. "I think that the world is plotting against me."

Something Ladybug said piqued my interest. "So, why did you go into all that trouble in the first place?" The question haunted my mind since she walked out on our argument and after all, she never did answer it.

A light pinkish blush sprinkled her snowflake white cheeks. She turned away from my gaze.

“I told you already. I wasn't about to let some spoiled brat disgrace my name as if I was some sort of target practice for them." The blueberry-eyed girl said flustered and hurriedly like she was lying.

I sighed internally; knowing she wasn't going to tell me and no amount of pushing would get me anywhere.

"Whatever you say..." I responded hesitantly. "C'mon, the girls are probably waiting for us right now. Wouldn't want to make them worry."

"...Yeah..." Ladybug replied timidly.

I couldn't help, but feel lucky every time I see this side of the normally confident front lines player. It was reliving to see that she too was human. Perfectly imperfect. Another hopeless mess like the rest of us.

I wondered what her family would be like? Would they be worried about her? Scared for her? It's been months since us players have been trapped inside this game of cat and mouse. What could they be feeling right now?

Thinking about how mature and courageous the cerulean-eyed girl was, she most likely had amazing folks, great friends, and perhaps even a boyfriend!

Ugh, let's not go there.

My body stiffened at the thought of my lady having a special someone impatiently waiting for her return. I know I would be if I was her man-Woah, I did not just go there.

Gah! Why am I even thinking about this in the first place?! It's not like I have feelings towards her or anything...

My scatterbrained mind wavered. That's the thing though isn't it? Deep down, I know that I really do like her. Maybe even love her. Crazy impulses and all. But, I know that even if we were lovers, I know that it's beyond impossible.

If we do never escape from this never-ending nightmare of a survival game, it may be possible to stay together, but once we do leave, our story of us being two star-crossed lovers will have a worse tragedy ending than Romeo and Juliet.

While those two die together; side by side as angels in heaven, we'll live apart; never seeing one another's faces again before dying miserable, lonely deaths.

After all, what's the chance that we actually live in the same country or continent for that matter? Like one in a million. Will I take them? I don't have the answer to that question yet.

It’s not like M’lady likes me the same way I like her though so maybe it’ll be a question I don’t need the answer to.

We strolled out of the floor’s marketplace in uncomfortable silence. It was nauseating since it felt like the world was growing warmer every second.

I tugged at my dark pleather collar for air to through my neck; beads of sweat accumulating down my temple.

Well, this was awkward.

The turquoise-eyed player beside me stayed way too close to me, not that I was complaining or anything, but her petite shoulder consistently kept bumping lightly against mine. I saw her glossy pink lips open and close as she breathed in oxygen.

She definitely was distracting and chasing my oh-so-mighty sidekick of wisdom away and hiring a new partner, yearning.

I whirled my head and started staring intently at very uninteresting tree; hiding my scarlet-tinted, flushed cheeks; trying not to purr in absolute pleasure.

It was going to a very long walk back.

***

I knocked roughly on the apartment’s oaken door; threatening to break it down if I didn’t watch my strength. Continually, no one answered the door. Not Jules. Not Rose. Not Mylene. No one.

Ladybug looked up at me with a rather annoyed glance. “What’s taking you so long to just open the darn door?”

“It’s locked.” I said as if that explained everything.

“Then break it down.” She deadpanned so matter-of-factly like it was so obvious what the next move should be.

I raised my hands in a matter of protest. My face innocently conveying, you should do that.

Besides, I wasn’t paying for the apartment expenses again like that time with the damaged restaurant.

“Buginette, wow. I didn’t know you were that kind of girl.” I flirted cockily.

“I’m not,” Ladybug pursed her lips in worry. “I just have a bad feeling about this.”

Kicking the door into smithereens, M’lady sky blue eyes darkened with horror. Her mouth was agape and she froze like winter came early.

I gently pushed her shoulder to make room for me to squeeze in. Oh how I wished I hadn’t.

Before long, I was petrified as well. My feet wouldn’t budge like they were stuck in between a rock and a hard place.

The room was beyond what you’d call trashed. Not messy like a pack rat’s den, but a chaotic catastrophe.

The dishes were shattered; sparkling a neon turquoise color into disappearance.

The spruce chairs were tossed to the side with a nick as if a blade had dug into it and as though someone had used it as a shield. Grazed splinters from the kitchen table and...

My eyes watered in disbelief. Forcing myself to take one step at a time, I slowly picked up a dull, scratched dagger lying on the side.

Mylene’s dagger. The one Ivan got for her.

I felt my quickening pulse race as if my heart was in a marathon. No, this couldn’t be happening...Why us...

Ladybug squeezed my shoulder in reassurance seeing as though my face had paled to a flakey chalk white.

“Let’s look for them, maybe one of them survived?” She sounded even more worried and terrified than I was.

Despite feeling like a scaredy cat, I nodded back before gazing back at the coarse, short blade and placing it inside my inventory storage.

Suddenly, the olden, wooden floorboards creaked from weight. Instinctively, I sheathed my darkness reincarnated sword, Plagg. Followed by Ladybug doing the exact same thing with her scarlet blade, Tikki.

“Someone’s coming.” The bluenette whispered.

The bright sun coming through the shattered shards of the window illuminated the feet of the treser. Closer and closer, the perpetrator lazily walked forward before their face was revealed.

My heart stopped and my breathing’s speed accelerated. I heard a clang of a sword bouncing off the ground. Gripping mine with so much intensity made my hand tremble. I saw a cherry red hilt and I knew that LB must have dropped her weapon.

“Well, well, well. Look what the cat dragged in,” No, it couldn’t be. I didn’t acknowledge the pun.

I saw the killing intent still fresh in the murderer’s bloodshot, jade green orbs as she spoke. “A little bug and the cute pussycat. Longtime no see.”

The brunette sneered as she draped her tangerine orange daggers over her shoulders.

That’s new.

“Lila, is that you?” I dared to ask. I didn’t know if it was just my nerves or not, but this Lila seemed...different. More powerful, intimidating, and...chaotic.

She appeared about the same with her maroon romper, pleather boots, and front twin-tails in her tawny brown curls.

“Y-You...What are you doing here?!” Ladybug stammered; terrified at the phantom-like girl standing before us.

The chestnut-haired girl rolled her eyes. “You know, for a so called great tactician front liner, you’re not very bright are you?”

Sneering, she continued to taunt us. “Don’t tell me you both haven’t figured it out yet?”

We stayed silent; connecting the dots one by one frightened us to want to hideaway in a deep hole for eternity.

“What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue?” The dulled-eyed former waitress provoked us with another cat pun.

“N-No...You couldn’t have...”Ladybug stepped back in horror as I was tempted to do the same. “No way...They can’t be...You...”

“That’s right princess,” Lila snarled in self-satisfaction at our shaking foundation. “I murdered every single one of your precious guild to a mere corpse!”

Hearing those words altered my entire, aquamarine blue sky into a slated grey and white.

Bantering manically, Lila reveled at our shocked, horrified countenances. Maliciously, she cackled with delight until her giggles died down to a deep, dark chuckle.

Dragging her piercing knife across the scattered wood of the furniture; scraping the edges, Lila snarled at us as she came to a revelation.

“Oh wait,” She placed a finger on her chin as if she was in deep thought. “There were I believe...two others?” She furrowed her brow in fake concentration.

Ivan and Volpina.

“No matter, I deal with them right after I obliterate you too.” The coppery-haired girl directed her bloodthirsty blade right at our quivering hearts.

I took a chance and caught a glimpse of my princess, just in time to see her knees buckling and her fragile, butterfly-like body to collapse onto the ground as the ashes of reality cloaked her. Mumbling to herself over and over; words I couldn’t comprehend.

Probably still processing that Jules, Rose, and Mylene are all-No! Don’t think about that! I need to stay focus!

Shakily, I raised my own obsidian sword, Plagg, ready into combat. It looks like this all rested on my shoulders.

“Lila!” I shouted. “Tell me! Why are you doing this?! Why did you-“ Do I dare to utter the words? “-kill them?! Jules...Rose...Mylene...They were innocent! They had nothing to do with your grudges against us!”

Lila snorted. “They may have nothing to do with my vengeance, but all I really wanted was to see that priceless look on your girlfriend’s face over there!” She chortled again as I gritted my teeth.

“So you just killed them just for your own personal pleasures? What kind of sicko does that?! Do you know what Hawkmoth, the guy who trapped us in this world, said about what happens those who die in the game?! Or are you just too bloodlust now to ?!” I screamed at the demon girl in agony; my voice broke and I heard the cringed cracks.

Lila sighed. “There’s no definite proof that we die IRL if we die in the game, besides does it look like I care? After all, I am an official red player now.”

I glared up to the third-dimensional rhombus curser over her head and saw that it was true. That blood red curser above heads symbolizes when players goes as to far as to murder other players.

“You’re insane.” I stated; getting my weapon ready while shifting my trembling feet.

The brunette guffawed again. “I’ll take that as a compliment.” Without so much as another word, she lunged; her mini swords glowing a sunset color.

Her daggers and my blade collided with one another with so much force that we both staggered.

Shockingly, even though Plagg and I both shoved her back with all of our leveled up strength, Lila still somehow overpowered us; flinging me backwards into a pile of crumbled rubble.

I gasped out in slight pain and surprise. No one in the MMO should have this much amount of power much less overpower one of the Miracle Swords no matter. Unluckily for me, Lila seemed to notice as well.

“So much power...” The jade-eyed girl murmured. “More powerful than the Cataclysm Cat himself!” Her irises gleamed in anticipation at the Miracle blade still clutched in my right hand. My body numbed as it came to the realization that I was going to die. Right here and then.

Lila noticed my anxiousness. “Aw, don’t worry scaredy-cat. I won’t kill you, orders are orders after all,”

Orders? From whom? Does this mean that Lila was sent out by someone to hunt us down? And why spare me?

“However, my boss didn’t say anything about keeping her alive!” Shrieking as she charged, Lila whirled her deadly daggers straight toward Ladybug.

“NO!” I screamed, but as I tried to budged, I saw that my right foot was stuck in between the demolished wooden furniture.

Cursing, I shouted again. “Ladybug! Move!” But she stayed still; unflinching and lifeless as the former waitress raced in for the kill.

All I saw next was the color red.
