"Any questions?" Ladybug inquired; scanning thoroughly at the surrounding faces of her beloved comrades for any confusion leaking from their indiscreet countenances.
Their emotionless, serious stares told the black-spotted heroine enough. Ladybug sighed in relief and in anxiety. All she really wanted right now was her comfy, striped pink cat pillows and bed. Just a quiet, peaceful night without any disturbances.
The strategic tactician had just gone over her brilliant plan to stop Hawkmoth for the third time to her friends. Overlaying and reanalyzing each important detail going from where they were going to ambush his secret hideout, The Notre Dame Cathedral, to what part everyone had to play to ensure their mission would be a hit success.
Her boyfriend, the one and only Cat Noir, had even helped out by creating a back-up plan in case their initiative operation for whatever reason would fail. And she would forever be in debt to her partner for his dedication. The bluenette was even more cautious and took another step forward when she even made a back-up plan for the back-up plan! She was that prepared.
The black and red hero groaned; definitely not looking forward to what tomorrow would bring. Staying up to nearly 10:00 P.M. on a Saturday night wasn't working too well for her since the school week had just ended. The blueberry-eyed girl was used to late hours with the weekly akuma attacks, nightly patrols, and schoolwork. But today, she just felt extra...sleepy.
Ladybug let loose a halted breath of frosty air. The days were getting shorter and colder during these brisk chills and random bursts of gale in the November autumn.
Alright. Only one last thing to say and you can go home and have an nice cup of hot chocolate with extra layered whipped cream. Ou! And white, fluffy marshmallows!
"Okay," The kwami holder concluded. "Let's all rendezvous here tomorrow at dusk to begin Plan Defeat Hawkmoth."
Queen Bee clucked her tongue. "Couldn't you both have come up with something...cooler for the title? I mean, this event is going to be part of the history books right? We need something more...catchier! Something that'll grab everyone's attention! Something-Oh..."
The black and yellow striped heroine stopped when she took notice of her leader's rather cranky and annoyed expression. Screaming self-evidently that she wasn't in the best mood for any unnecessary changes. The bee hero grasped hold of her attention-yearning lust.
"Ah! Sorry, continue..." She said sheepishly.
Rena Rouge, Carapace, and Cat Noir chuckled internally at their clueless friend. Leave it up to Queen Bee to extract away the tense atmosphere.
"Anyways..." Ladybug dragged on. "As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted," She gave the blonde female her most menacing death eyes. The striped heroine merely let out an awkward giggle. "It is imperative that you guys all make it here on time tomorrow so no dilly-daddling and try to get some sleep. You're all going to need to get some rest cause I'm gonna need your strength tomorrow. , the city's protection lies on our shoulders so we can't afford to lose this fight. Alright?"
When Ladybug took notice of her comrades' understanding, she forcefully let out a weary smile to lighten the load. "Okay, good night everyone," She let loose a brief, wide yawn;totally exhausted. However, she stifled it immediately when she saw that her friends were still waiting there. "Huh? Why are you all still here? I gave you guys permission to go home now."
Mischievous smirks appeared on her friends' faces;obviously naughty thoughts slicing and piercing away all thoughts of logical sense throughout their heads.
Ladybug's aqua irises widened to the size of saucers. Whatever her friends were thinking, it was self-explanatory that the devil's world was about to be freed from its hibernation slumber.
"Cat?" The black-spotted heroine swerved her head adjacently to the right;terrified of what could be beside her. A toothy Cheshire Cat grin grabbed her attention;letting all possible percentages of fleeing their hypnotism flying out the window.
The model always did have that effect on her. Always did, always will. Who would have thought this so called "golden boy" would have a dark side to him. An angel on the outside, but an absolutely merciless beast on the inside. But, the girl wouldn't change him for the world. He was hers, and she was his. And that would never disappear.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Rena Rouge asked in a sassy tone; sending chills down Ladybug's spine.
"You know it babe." Carapace grinned;rubbing his evergreen gloves together in anticipation.
"Ya'll know I'm in." Queen Bee whipped her sandy-blonde ponytail over her shoulder dramatically.
Just as Cat Noir opened his mouth, no doubt to offer his consent too, Ladybug stepped in. "Oh no you four! Whatever you're thinking, stop thinking it! We have a mission tomorrow ?! The one where we have to defeat-"
"Count me in." Cat Noir hindered her final words.
The bluenette was utterly dumbfounded. Not once in her life as a superhero had she heard her kitty not vouch for her side. In every single battle they've faced together, she couldn't recall any akuma victim that he'd fight against her commands. It was just one of the numerous reasons why their teamwork worked so well together. In nearly perfect syncopation.
Absolutely astounded at her kitty's betrayal, she frantically tried in vain to put an end to her comrades-in-arms' lust for some midnight fun.
"No! No! No!" Ladybug shouted to her earless partners in a motherly tone. "We've got a duty to prepare for tomorrow! We can't go out now!" But, even she knew that her friends weren't even the slightest bit interested in her fiery persuasion to hold them back.
Finally, after one agonizing minute of gazing at their piqued, annoyingly impish smiles, the fox hero, Rena Rouge, acknowledged her existence. "Chill girl, we're not gonna do anything THAT crazy bad tonight if that's what you're worried about with that priceless expression of yours." Rena smirked.
Ladybug was feeling anything, but amused during that moment. "Then what are the four of you punks planning?" She interrogated; feeling suspicious and cautious of her friends' answer.
The elfish, cheeky grins returned; irritating their leader to no end. The next three words they said completely blew Ladybug away.
"SLEEPOVER AT MARI'S!" The four heroes yelled excitedly in unison; bouncing exhilaratingly into the air, bright, perky smiles etched over their faces.
***
Marinette's right iris twitched;totally bewildered at the catastrophe unfolding before her very eyes.
"Okay, I get that I said that you all needed to rest up for tomorrow and all that..." She drawled out her words.
"BUT, WHY ARE YOU ALL CRASHING AT MY PLACE?!" She screamed incredulously to no one in particular. A vein popped out of her forehead; indicating her ornery, raging mood.
Her eyes darted back and forth from the sights of the crunching of salty, yellow buttered popcorn in Chloe's mouth, the quenching gulps of sparkling onyx black coke from Alya and Nino; leaving cloud white bubbly foam over their lips, and the monster starvation their kwamis were on;snarfing down every ounce of junk food they could find in her family's bakery's cupboards.
All were in their most loose-fitting, colorful pajamas. All were laughing the night away as if tomorrow was just another typical, ordinary weekend day. One without the responsibilities. Without the stress. And without the masks. A completely normal day in the life of regular high school teenagers.
If only...If only they were normal high schoolers.
But, the worse thing of all was what her personal favorite kitten was doing. He was chillingly sprawled on her jet black polka-dotted, rose pink divan. Legs and arms crossed relaxingly; he would occasionally snack on a few chips, chortled with the others if a funny joke came up, or he would make a low key pun earning himself a few eye rolls and snickers.
He was completely unbothered by what was unfolding before himself; not even the slightest bit concerned that her friends had crashed into her place for no apparent reason and with no explanation while leaving HER room as a massive dump.
It. Was. So. Frustrating. Not to mention, it was irritating her to no end. If her life was an anime, she sure would have at least a hundred, emphasized veins popping out of her skull this very second. That's how utterly agitated she was. Chloe glanced up at her haughty, party pooper excuse for a leader from her phone and popcorn snacks. "Because we like it here Mari. It's where we feel the most comfortable and safe during times like these."
"But couldn't you guys have this...party...thing like at I don't know, Chloe's house or Adrien's? Their homes are way more spacious than mine!" Marinette inquired.
Alya shook her head disapprovingly. "Girl, like Chloe said, this is where we feel most at home. We made most of our best memories here. It's our...happy place. When things get bad, coming here has almost always made our lives so much more brighter. So, it was the perfect place to have our next, special sleepover."The ombré-haired fox hero gazed for a minute at each of their team's . Each giving her an encouraging smile that she explained it perfectly; gesturing her to continue. "Besides girl, do you really want to deal with explaining to Adrien's dad or the mayor why we're all camped up all cozily in their homes?"
Marinette shuddered at the thought. "Good point."
"So does that mean we can stay?" Adrien gave his most alluring, emerald green kitty eyes that no one could refuse. Marinette sighed.
I can't believe we're doing this...
"Fine," The bluenette gave in. "But, you all better behave yourselves! I'm letting you all stay here on the condition that we all go to bed when I say so. Got it?"
"Got it!" The group responded enthusiastically; all too elated about getting their leader's permission about having the slumber party to worry about curfew.
Marinette groaned for the millionth time today. She even shocked herself when she had agreed to her friends' proposal. It just had to be tonight though. Why tonight?!
The cerulean-eyed girl was more stressed than ever now. Between dealing with their Defeat-Hawkmoth-Tomorrow plan and the obnoxious people she considers friends, the girl wasn't sure she could handle the extra endorphins entering her system.
CRASH!
Marinette left her still-imploding brain and peered over her shoulder to see what in the world could make so much racket. Couldn't the universe understand for at least one minute that she needed to think?!
Apparently, some hysterical joke from the Adrien Agreste, had Alya and Nino bantering so hard, so hard that they were both wheezing for air, that the couple flopped onto their backs;sending Chloe's poor plastic container of delicious popcorn flying.
Wasted food landed absolutely everywhere in Marinette's room. Into her friends' stomachs, her usually primped up(now messy)rug, her divan, desk, and worst of all; some of the non-popped golden brown seeds got tangled in her ocean blue strands of hair which she plucked out sadly.
It's gonna be a long night.
***
Marinette Dupain-Cheng moaned quietly into her black-striped light pink cat pillow. Totally exhausted from the "fun" activities she did all night. A small smile graced her lips.
Although, she would be lying if she said that the night owl games weren't enjoyable to say the least. It had taken some her worries about the dawning of tomorrow away. The tenseness and anxiety had slightly faded from the depths of her mind.
Honestly, being with her friends really made dealing with the problem a lot easier. The ten of them(including their kwamis) did all sorts of things together to kill time. Played board games. Watched horror movies(which had and will keep literally everyone screaming and seeing nightmares for the rest of their existences). Played truth or dare(No one enjoyed picking one or the other). Pillow fights. Cupcake baking(Marinette and Alya were the only ones who made proper treats). And just about anything else anyone would do at a last-second sleepover.
It had taken the leader ages to convince her team to go to bed. All were whining and complaining like children while she was the old doting mother. Even Nino's bewilderingly elephant sounding noise of a snore soothed her night tremors.
However, all of the terror she still hid wouldn't slip away that easily. The bluenette was still terrified of what could happen. Will the plan work? Will it not? Will she have to make an impossible choice along the way? Will she have to sacrifice anyone?
Marinette squeezed her turquoise orbs shut. Fabricating each speck of detail, every hair on each member's face of her beloved family. The people she cared about. The people she grew up with. The people who have always been there for her. The people who would stay loyal to the ends of the earth for her. The people who trusted her. Helped her. Saved her. Taught her. Loved her. Her parents. Her uncle. Master Fu. Everyone in her class. Her teachers and principal. The citizens of Paris. Manon and her mother. The kwamis. Nino. Alya. Chloe. Adrien.
Every single on of them. She would everything to protect them. She'd give her life for them. And in turn, they would feel and do the same. The midnight-haired girl knew in her heart, mind, and soul that she felt that way. So, why was she acting like such a wuss now?
I know why. It's because I'm just a chicken.
Marinette clutched her shoulders tightly; hoping to tire herself out and force herself to sleep. To scare away the harsh truth of the merciless, cruel reality. But, her eyes just wouldn't close.
Wrapping her frail-like, fragile body within the many comfy, fluffy blankets to warm the shivers coming up her spine, Marinette rustled the sheets to cover her arms and legs. Her not-so-quiet scuffling however, caught the attention of a certain black cat.
"Princess?" The holder of the kwami of destruction murmured as to not wake the others up.
Marinette swerved her whole body around to find herself astoundingly gazing straight into meadow green irises. She squeaked in surprise and fear; scampering off of her current laying down position to an awkward sitting stance. Scarlet blush painted her cheeks red. Stars above that it was dark and all the lights were off.
"H-Hey A-Adrien!" Marinette said a little too loudly. Darn her stuttering! She wasn't expecting him to climb up to her bed like he use to when he visited her as Cat Noir. Now, Adrien probably thinks that's she's a complete loser. The model may be her boyfriend, but she was nowhere near acting somewhat casual around him. Just plain old awkward without the mask and whenever the two were alone.
The bluenette could practically see in the pitch-black darkness that the golden boy's ego was flaring up. She could just feel on plain instinct that he was smirking rather contently and cockily about her insistently, annoying old habits. She always hated it when his Cat Noir side shows up outside of his mask and the public.
"Why, a good morning to you M'lady," The electric green-eyed boy said smoothly. "What are you doing up this early anyway?" He raised his hand to stifled a rather large yawn.
Marinette had to staunch her reeling greed of just kissing him senseless, but she kept her lustful desires to herself. His normally perfectly styled sunshine blond curls were all shaggy and unkempt making him look even cuter than usual. Not to mention, when he tenderly rubs his half-lidded leaf green eyes...
Drat! Why'd he have to be born so hot?!
"It's nothing. Just couldn't sleep," She forced out; wanting him to leave before her head loses control of her yearnings. "Go back to bed." The bluenette tried to sound as professional as possible when ordering him away while turning her body back to her side again; not wanting to see his face.
Unfortunately for her, the kitty's curiosity saw right through her as though she was pure glass. "I know, you're lying, Bugaboo," The blond-haired boy glared at her; disappointment in his chaise tone. She never was the greatest liar. Seriously, how did this girl manage to avoid being called out by someone for looking exactly like Ladybug? Even he was duped. It was a miracle.
"Come on, spit it out. What's wrong?" Adrien gently touched her shoulder, but she painlessly yet roughly slapped it away.
"I told you, it's nothing." She muttered.
"Princess-" Adrien started on his lecture.
Marinette couldn't contain it anymore. She needed to let it out. On something. Someone. Anyone. She didn't care at that moment that it was Adrien she was releasing all of her antimony onto. It was like standing on top of a furious volcano beginning its first stage of eruption before burning down a couple handful of cities.
Whirling like a tornado back at him, she snapped. All sense of logic fleeted away. Only wrath remained. "I'm scared okay?!" She shouted. "I'm scared of losing tomorrow!"
Her boyfriend's face was unreadable, placid even. Before his face contorted into a large grin and the chuckles leaked out. The golden-haired superhero wrapped an arm over his stomach when the laughter doubled. Barely soft enough to not disturb the others.
This irked Marinette even more to no end. She had put up with her friends' surprise sleepover ambush, their unruly and irresponsible behavior, and now the boy she loves is laughing at her fear. Could her brain handle any more veins forming on her forehead?
"I'm glad my fears amuse you." The aquamarine-eyed girl snarked; wanting nothing more than to give the model one good smack.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry," Adrien apologized rapidly; wiping away a growing tear out of his meadow green orbs. "I'm not really surprised that you're scared. All of us are, but...It's just...strange hearing you it it out loud."
Marinette was baffled. Whatever in the world could he be talking about?
"What do you mean?" She inquired.
Adrien gave her a low-key smirk. "The great, fearless heroine Ladybug saying she's scared? Not something you hear everyday if you know what I mean."
The bluenette refrained from rolling her eyes at her partner's logical assessment. Has she mention that she really wanted to punch him? Yet, deep down; underneath all of her narcissistic pride, she knew that his words rang true.
When her own sky blue irises gazed into her boyfriend's own summer green ones, those glow-in-the-dark eyes said a thousand words before another one of his gentle smiles graced their presence. "I...get what you're saying." Marinette finally broke their uncomfortable staring contest.
"Stubbornness always was one of your impending traits." Adrien joked.
Marinette scoffed. "Har. Har. And so is my mind-blowing hubris."
"Can't argue with that." The fashion designer's brain was about to implode on itself. One thing she couldn't figure out herself was how the cat superhero could still laugh and act so optimistic when the safety of Paris was lying on their shoulders. How was he able to keep the city's foundation from collapsing? What was she doing wrong?
"How do you do it?" She blurted out.
Adrien gave her a skeptical look. "Do what?"
"Act so...so natural. As if the city won't be wiped off the map tomorrow for all I know?! As if tomorrow's gonna be another totally normal day?! How are you all even getting sleep while I'm practically dying of petrification?!" She yelled; frustrated at her friends' positivity.
Their confidence in her that they'll win and put an end to Hawkmoth's ambitious and avarice shenanigans. It was killing her. This self-doubt. She had always had a stab of hesitation when she accepted her destiny as the future heroine, Ladybug.
It was digging into her insides like a knife; swallowing all the good that came with being a hero. And leaving nothing, but the scraps and remaining bones when there was barely anything left. Barely anything, but the never-ending tunnel of darkness that took the light's place.
The blond-haired boy shrugged. "It's simple really," When his girlfriend didn't say anything, he continued. "I have things that I need to protect, and I gladly put my life on the line to keep those things safe. If I don't, every amazing thing that happened to me during these last few years would disappear like it was never there. Then, I'll be left with nothing again."
Marinette was speechless. She felt her mouth open, but her vocal cords wouldn't budge. Her brain was commanding them to move, but they were as still as rocks.
"You ask why I fight, I fight to shield you and everyone and everything about this city that I love. And, that's a promise that I'm not willing to break. Not on my life." Adrien concluded.
Marinette wasn't that ignorant; she knew about his unpleasant past with his mother's disappearance, his father's frozen heart, and his sheltered mansion acting as his cage like he was some sort of untamed, mythical beast. Too rare and valuable to let loose into the world.
The day he decided to drop the "golden boy" act was the greatest day of his life, no doubt about it. It was also the day the two lovers first met. Honestly, the duo didn't have the best first impression on one other due to the misunderstanding with Chloe's and Sabrina's mean bubblegum antics.
But, one shared umbrella underneath the drizzling drops of rain sent the two into the beginning of the romance novel of star-struck romantics. One who loved a boy who kept on smiling no matter what happened and one who loved a girl who radiated courage and justice.
It was astounding in Marinette's mind how much Adrien treasured everything the world gifted him with. A double-life, a kwami, loyal friends, a lover, and his freedom. How much he would sacrifice to keep all those precious things out of harm's way. The irreplaceable bonds he created with everyone he met and who he cherished. He lived every single day like it was his last.
It hit her like a tsunami ready to crash into a million islands. What really mattered wasn't whether they win or fail, it was only in the attempt to protect those they loved that proved that the team would end victorious no matter the odds of their survival.
Marinette laughed at how stupid she really was. "Gods, I'm such an idiot." She ignored Adrien's rather quizzical countenance. She sighed at her moron self. Seriously, the answer was so obvious and was right there in front of her the entire time. She just looked too closely and just couldn't find it.
They say the closer you get to something, the tougher it is to see it. And Marinette agreed whole-heartedly.
"Hey Adrien?" Marinette made eye with him again.
"Hm?"
"Thank you. And, sorry for dumping all of this onto you, I know you have your own worries to think about. I'm supposed to be the brave one, not the one who cries on everyone's shoulder. But, thanks for taking the load off me all the same." She smiled sadly.
"Hey," Adrien clasped his hand over her shoulder in affection. "Don't worry about it. That's what boyfriends are for after all."
"You know, this doesn't mean that I won't still be nervous," Marinette groaned; crossing her arms behind her head. "I still can't fall asleep."
A lightbulb idea popped into Adrien's head. He rummaged into his pajama pockets, reaching for a what looked to be a small, square-shaped packet that was the the size of the center of Adrien's palm, and handed it to her.
Marinette stared at the mini piece of plastic filled with...glitter? The raven-haired girl shook the minuscule bag of silvery rainbow specks of dots that shimmered like sequins in the silvery moonlight. Curious to what her boyfriend had just given her. "What's this?" She asked.
The emerald green-eyed boy(which Marinette in that second couldn't help, but notice that the glitter were almost as pretty as the cat hero's gem-like eyes)flushed a cherry red shade. Like he was...embarrassed to tell her. Which was so unlike him.
"Promise you won't laugh?" Adrien hesitated; fidgeting with his pointer fingers.
The bluenette nodded; still slightly confused. What in the world could have Adrien this crazy flustered? It's been a while since the last she seen him be so red faced.
"...It's called...," He stopped for a moment; contemplating and weighing the pros and cons on whether or not to tell his ebony-haired princess. Adrien squeezed his eyes shut and breathed in a quick suck of air before releasing it. "...Jitter glitter."
One minute ticked by.
A tickle of light giggles escaped Marinette's throat before she threw her arm over her mouth; stifling the laughs. But, she couldn't barricade the next wave of chortling attacks.
"You're laughing." Adrien pouted; his cheeks squished together as puffy as pumpkins.
"I'm sorry," Marinette smacked her own face to halt the cackles before she turned serious. "I just wasn't expecting you to say that is all. What is it for?"
Adrien shrugged sheepishly. "You said, you needed a way to fall asleep right? That little bag of glitter is the reason why I've been slumbering like a log. I guess, you can say that it soothes my nerves down hence the name...jitter glitter."
"Where'd you get the idea for it?" The onyx-haired heroine asked; shaking the packet of tiny, sparkling dots.
"...My mom," He finally answered. "I was maybe four or five. I I was nervous about my first modeling gig and I knew how important it was for my dad and all so...she handed me the glitter container and told me to put underneath my pillow. Now, whenever I get anxious about anything, I knew I could always make use of it. It reminds of her;beautiful and sun-shiny...just like mom." The blond rubbed the back of his neck in habit; a crimson hue still plastered all over.
"And it actually works?" Marinette inquired; unsure of what to say and whether or not to believe him.
Adrien cocks an eyebrow. "Have I ever lied to you Bugaboo?" His girlfriend stayed quiet and Adrien could have sworn that he saw her roll her pretty baby blue irises. "You know what I like to think?" The model asked rhetorically. "That each one of those tangible and sticky pieces of glitter represent something I love. So when I sleep, I believe that they're right there with me every step of the way."
The bluenette smirked. "Am I one of those things?"
Adrien smiled; joyful when he noticed that her dampened mood had left her system. "You know it." He quipped back making her musical laugh filled the empty void of her room.
"What's with all the racket?" A new, raspy voice alighted into the couple's conversation; annoyance clearly indicated. Plagg rubbed his night-vision, neon green eyes.
"Marinette? Adrien?" The other red humanoid squeaked; yawning widely. "Why are you two still up? It's like three in the morning."
"Probably wanted to make out in secret." The black cat kwami grumbled in a huff. Tikki smacked the back of Plagg's head making the jet black humanoid grunt.
"Plagg!" Adrien hushed; cheeks burning even more.
"It was nothing like that you two," Marinette explained; her own face in crimson shambles as well. "I was just having some doubts about to tomorrow and Adrien was calming me down."
"Oh Marinette," Tikki flew over and hugged her holder's pale cheeks. "You must have more faith in yourself and everything will work out just fine! You'll see!"
"That's almost exactly what I was gonna say," Plagg added in; sitting lazily on his own holder's shoulder. "Except with less positivity and fewer words."
Everyone, but him rolled their eyes expecting nothing less from the frontal direct words from the kwami of destruction.
After the original duo put the two mischievously tricksy kwamis to bed, Marinette was about to hand back Adrien's precious plastic bag of glitter, but he stopped her. "Keep it," He grinned. "I think you need it more than I do."
"But-" Marinette started to protest. "Okay. Thank you." She whispered; hugging the glitter to her chest at her heart. The girl wanted one final thing though.
Before the blond-haired knight in shining armor could step back down from her bed, the ebony-haired princess grabbed the back of his shirt, whirling him around to capture his soft lips in a chaste yet ionate kiss.
Her last view was of his bulging leaf green eyes before she closed her own; tasting his sugary mouth. Gasping for oxygen, she loosened her hold, tilting her forehead against his; muttering another thank you. He smirked cockily and responded with a cute wink.
"Good night." They said simultaneously.
Marinette slipped the packet of glittery specks underneath her ginormous, pinky cat pillow and let everyone she loved sing her a lullaby to sleep.

It was time. Hawkmoth's lair was waiting; glaring at all the heroes straight in the eye. Silently daring them all to take a step closer.
The grey moon and bright stars illuminated the cathedral, but the shadows still overpowered them. It was difficult for all of them, but Cat Noir(because of his night vision)to see what was in front of them. But, when has anything stopped the dream team?
Ladybug's hand slid into her number one partners and he gripped back gently; encouraging her with a faint, cheerful smile. As if he was saying, please you defeated worse before.
She smiled back; determination laced within her ocean orbs. She gave the hand signal; the packet of glitter still clutched in her other hand for luck. She squeezed it tightly reassurance. Operation Defeat Hawkmoth was underway.
"Let's move!"
