"And two, because my father made it clear to me that if you return with even a scratch, I may as well be better off dead." He finished softly with a smirk.
"What? I didn't know he said that. Even my papa didn't mind me going with you, he trusts you enough to take care of me...I'd get if he'd said that, but.../your/ dad?" The bluenette let out as they stepped into the lift.
*°*°*
Gazing at the girl of his dreams he answered her question.
"Well I can't really blame him. He loves his soon-to-be daughter in-law."
He reached for Marinette's other hand which fell to her side. Gently, he held it from her fingers, lifting it up like he always did when he wanted to kiss her farewell as chatnoir.
This time, he brought it up to reveal the beautifully elegant engagement ring, its single diamond reflecting off holographic light. Two small gems sat next to it, one on either side. A red ruby to it's right and a green emerald to it's left.
He stared down at it dreamingly, as if he himself couldn't believe that she was finally his fiancée.
Starstruck, he continued absent minded. "And why wouldn't he? -"
Peeling his eyes away from the ring, he lifted his gaze up to her face. "-You're smart, skilled, filled with laughter, love and creativity, have a ion for your work, lovable, amazingly talented, drop dead gorgeous AND have a great taste in fashion." He paused for a hint of a second.
Bringing up both her hands to his chest, he gently enterwined his fingers with hers. Losing himself into those mesmerizing orbs of blue bell eyes, he went on.
"That and the fact that you're ladybug-but we can leave that tiny detail out." He finished with a wink.
Marinette's heart fluttered and then dove into over drive. The pink blush which spurred on her flushed cheeks was turning into the same shade as her lip gloss.
When he sweet talked, she was powerless. It took everything she had to not give into the urge to collapse because even now, after being with this dork for 8 solid years, her mind went blank, her heart strings trilled, and her legs turned to jelly.
That was because she knew he meant it. Every word.
As the elevator escalated, up, up, up, so did marinette. When she ed that playfull smirk on his lips which slowly hovered over, getting closer and closer, she caught herself and straightened up.
"Half way across the world and yet you still shamlessly flirt." Marinette breathed, her hooded lids flickering with just a hint of mischief.
"Half way across the world and yet you still get so flustered." Adrien replied, equally soft.
Another shot of pink settled onto her cheeks and the tip of her nose. The world slowed down as they moved closer in sync. Little by little like molases. Unaware that they were closing the small, pesky gap between their lips. Their dazed, half lided gaze solely locked on the other's.
And then, darkness swallowed them whole. The elevator made a sound like one of a power out and stopped. The hum of currents and music shut off without warning.
With a yelp Marinette jumped, nearly falling back were it not for the immediate grip, tight as a vice, on her arm. Balancing on her heel, the light tugg brought her back in balance.
It took a while but her eyes adjusted to the sheer darkness in the small space she was now stuck in.
There was no sound.
Not from the machine nor her fiancé. The only thing her ears seemed pick up on was the violent thudding of her heart.
She swallowed hard, trying to see despite being able to make out the barest sight of adrien's hand. Her eyes desperately scowered, seeking any form of light but her vision was meager.
After about a minute in the dark the bulk of steel gave a groan, causing a chill to run down Marinette's spine. A few hums later, the lights flickered on. The elevator, however, gave no motion.
The machine sat there, rooted to the spot.
"Oh you've got to be kidding me."
Marinette let out in a breath, refusing to believe the situation she had now fallen into.
Lightly pushing Adrien to the side, she frantically pushed the button to 'board room 2' which no longer lit up or had the intentions of doing so.
"No. Oh no, no, no, no, no. Oh please /no/!"
Balling her hand into a fist she continued at the button knowing very well that she, was infact, now stuck.
It was one thing to go blind in darkness but it was another to be able to see the ditch she had been thrown into.
With a groan she gave in and pressed her forehead to the cool, steel wall. Smacking the closed door next to it with the side of her fist, she let out a long, heavy, irritated sigh.
She had no problem with tight spaces-at least in costume. But right then, in that momment, she had just about enough of New York and its disasterous surprises.
"The one day-I-leave-tikki in the hotel-something like-THIS-just-happens to happen! " The bluenette roared while punching the door in between her sentence.
Before she could land another slam to the door, Adrien caught her hand by the wrist and gently took hold of her balled fist.
"Ok, I know you're tough but we don't want to bruise that!" He let out quickly. Fishing for her other hand, he continued.
"We've been /stuck/ in a situation like this before. Im telling you, it's the spark between us that always short circuits the elevators "-he winked, earning a flick of eyes sharp enough to slice through his very skin.
Marinette was in no state for silly puns.
Adrien seemed to pick up on that.
(For ONCE)
He sighed, trying agian. "Ok. I know this sucks but don't panic. Everything will be alright."
Marinette's eye twiched and she let out a strained, nervous, almost delirious laugh. Taking in a deep breath she began her rant, her voice raising and becoming squekier as she went on. By the end, she was practically rambling like a nervous mess.
"Panicking? Oh I'm not panicking. It's TOTALLY fine if we're stuck here for an hour or two; it's not that bad. We'll only have to push back our two other meetings which means we'll miss our flight, meaning we'll be stuck in this /Stupid/ city for another day! So Offcourse I'm NOT panicking! What makes you say that?"
Adrien didn't know what was scarier. Seeing her soon-to-come wrath slowly creeping up or being stuck in an elevator with her when it would show its heinous self.
He caught sight of a red, flashing light from the corner of his eye. Relief flooded him faster than helium in a balloon.
"Well I know one thing, we won't be stuck here too long." He smiled.
Marinette physically twitched, bitting her lip. The doubt in her features spoke volumes. "How can you be so sure?" She whispered, desperately searching his eyes for certainty.
Adrien lightly jut his chin to something behind her. Confused, the bluenette cocked a brow and then slowly looked over her shoulder.
"See that light? It means the guys here know what's up. They're probably working to fix the situation as we speak." He said softly.
He knew Mari was home sick and he didn't blame her one bit. She had always disliked the idea to venture out ever since her mother insisted she accompany her on her trip to China. Long story short-although she had a wonderful time meeting family, her trip back was a little...unpleasant.
He uderstood that unlike him, planes and air travel weren't the highlights of her life. That and add the fact that the flight to New York was a rather long, frustrating one. So it was totally normal for her to be annoyed to the brink of extinction by now.
Marinette let out a silent sigh, drooping her shoulders. Shifting her gaze to the metalic door, sealed shut and then to their clasped hands, locked tight, another sigh managed to escape her pinkalicious lips.
Even with all the heat he was getting from her and the wheather, despite all the surprising dilemmas, Marinette found herself fondly enthralled at Adrien's unwavering, perpetual, behaviour.
He had managed to keep sane as the chaos of this disastrous business trip thinned her strand of patience. She had thrashed and bashed and he had stood through it all. Not even an "umph" escaped his lips.
He had been nothing but patient, kind and caring. Three things she didn't deserve with the behaviour she had splayed.
The thought seeped its way down and into her heart. A soft, pastel, burst of warmth bloomed through the valves of her chambers until the fuzzy, pedals of elation filled her blood stream, right down to her capillaries.
The spark which followed gave birth to a steady flame beggining to flicker in her blue bell eyes. Hunger creeped its way down her back leaving her lavished.
A desire to want.
Suddenly, the motionless bulk of steel didn't seem too bad. Screw the meeting. She could stay here all day long if it meant she could be with him and him alone. After all, a glass half full is still considered to hold water. Sweet, sweet water to quench her bubbling thirst.
Her eyes devoured the perfection of her prince. The way the lights and shadows complimented his dazzling features. Oh yes, she needed some water.
Because now, she was thirsty.
