Hello PA! Today I’m bringing you a PSA

on what to do if your pet gets lost and

how to stay safe when spreading the

word on Amino since we see these types

of posts in PA sometimes.

The short answer to that is yes! We

understand that you want to do

everything you can to bring your pet

home safely. However, there’s some

precautions you should take before

doing this which I’ll go over below.

Amino isn’t very popular compared

to the other large social media’s and

out of the 74k we have here

it’s quite unlikely that someone active

lives in the exact same area as you

which is why Pets Amino should be

one of the last places you try.

Facebook is the best social media to

turn to if you’ve lost a pet as sharing

posts is easy and there’s lots of local

and lost and found pet groups you can

to spread awareness. Many vets

and shelters also have Facebook pages

where they can post about found pets.

If you don’t have Facebook then you can

always ask a friend or family member

that does to share.

Instagram isn’t as good as Facebook

in my opinion but can definitely still be

great because of the popular “story”

feature that people often share posts

on. I’ve definitely seen a lot of lost pet

posts being shared on there. You can

try other social media’s too but these

two are probably best.

If your pet has been missing for a few

days it’s might be a good idea to put

up some posters in your local area that

include a photo of the pet and your

details at a minimum. You can

put these outside on lampposts, bins,

walls, etc and could also try asking your

local pet stores and veterinary centres

to put one up inside.

Some other things you can do include checking your pets favourite places, reporting them missing to your microchip company (so it can’t be changed), check shelters, and your local dog warden if it’s a dog.

If you do choose to post on Amino

there’s some safety precautions you

need to take.

Never give out your:

• Full name

• Address

• Exact location like town name

• Phone number

• Postcode

What you can share in a lost pet post:

• General area such as state and

whereabouts (north, east, south etc)

• Photos of the pet

• Places the pet likes to hang out

such as parks, in bushes etc

can pm you if they have any

information on your pet so there’s no

need to give out your personal

details.

These safety rules don’t just apply if

you’re missing a pet. Never give out

that information to anyone and if someone

here is harassing you for it or making

you uncomfortable then screenshot

and report to a member of moderation

so we can handle it.

The best way to prevent pets from getting lost is making sure gardens, fences and enclosures are not escapable. The only exception is cats if there not indoor cats. Also aren’t dog wardens American? ( as I’ve never even seen any in U.K. )

I’m also in the UK and your local council should have a dog warden. I’ve never actually seen one either but after researching I found out my town has one.
