"Mari...," Adrien whispered to his love; slicing his blade through the tense air. "Hang back. I'm going to finish this myself."
"But-" Marinette started to protest.
"Please..." Adrien murmured.
Marinette's feet skidded to a stop. She took a breather. He had to fix this on his own. And his shattered plead to do this alone was what broke her to mere shards of despair. She tried to convince herself; this is what fate designed him to do. To stop his brother and atone for his brother's mistakes.
"Felix," Adrien's voice was ragged. He meant business. Adrien raised his sword and angled the tip to his sibling's face of anguish. "I challenge you a duel. Right here. Right now. Winner becomes king. Loser...receives any punishment by the winner for eternity. So? How about it?" Adrien's countenance didn't change for a second. He wasn't messing around. Not again.
Felix looked as though he was trying not to scream in terror. "F-fine," He gazed at the crowd;scanning for anything to use as a weapon. He pointed to the nearest noble with a decorative sword attached to his extravagant belt on his waist. "You there! Give me your sword!"
The noble; terrified of the king, while shaking, gave his sword to the false king.
Felix stumbled at the shockingly heavy weight of the sword and barely managed to balance himself. He held it at a somewhat steady position and made no haste to make the first move. "Die!" He shrieked; with no technique, he tried to slice the sword through Adrien's head.
Unfortunately for him, his attack was too slow and Adrien dodged easily; parrying the sword with just his strength. Even though, Felix had the larger weapon, Adrien had much more experience and adaptability than the last time these two went into combat. Felix cursed in a fury at his disadvantage as Adrien seemed as though he wasn't even trying to win. He looked bored out of his mind!
"Tell me something brother," Adrien said absentmindedly; throwing Felix's sword from his hand a few feet away. "Did you really kill our father? Is it true?"
Felix crumpled to the ground on his knees in defeat. He started to laugh hysterically; sobbing shrieks of unpredictable tears. "Yes...I did kill our father you monster. And you know what, I enjoyed it. I loved hearing our beloved father's last breath on his death bed."
Adrien knew his brother wasn't sane anymore. He had gone delusional, absurd, even thinking that he was right. Believing that his actions speak for themselves. Felix wasn't his brother any longer. The Felix he knew was gone. Vanished. Disappeared. With no more reason to exist or live. This Felix is a shadow of the former person Adrien once knew. A shadow that can be vanquished once faced to the light. However, it was too late. Felix's soul and heart are now remnants of what they use to be. Although, there was one thing that was still bugging him.
"Why?" Adrien asked; not sure if he wanted to know the answer.
"Do you the night when Mom died?," Felix asked back. "Four years ago, you and Mom were heading into town to buy some new flowers for our garden. However, Mom noticed a mysterious figure heading your way and she guided you to run through the forest."
My dream! Adrien thought. Where was he going with this?
"She told you to run. Don't look back. I hated you for it. Running away like a coward instead of helping her!," Felix was screaming now. "You made it to the castle; dirty and muddy like you played with the swines. You told father about mother; salty water spewing everywhere. I recall being there. Recalling how father said that he would search for her. I hated you for trusting him! Do you know what I heard after you left and when he thought I left?"
Adrien was scared. What did he say? He stared back at Marinette who was also on edge with Felix's story.
"Father's advisor asked him, "Are you going to search for her?" and do you know what our so called perfect ruler responded? He said, "No. Let her rot to the next day. I'm personally happy to see her dead."
Felix breathed heavily; searching around the stunned court. "It's up to you if you believe me if not. But, I have one last request brother."
Adrien stared up expectantly.
Felix grinned deviously. "Kill me."
